The Assistant Director of Advisement provides high-level academic advising to undergraduate performing arts students and oversees the daily operations of the advising unit. This role includes supervising advising staff and ensuring consistent, high-quality advising practices and professional development within the team. As the primary advising lead for performing arts programs, the Assistant Director delivers developmental advising, manages registration and degree-progress processes, and collaborates closely with program leadership and Advisement leadership to support student success, persistence, and timely degree completion.
Position Duties
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for undergraduate advising, ensuring high-quality and consistent advising practices.
- Supervise and mentor advising staff and support their ongoing professional development.
- Collaborate with the Senior Assistant Dean and University Advising Director to align advising practices with university-wide frameworks and student success priorities.
- Use retention and academic progress data to inform advising practices and student support strategies.
- Advise a caseload of undergraduate performing arts students on degree requirements, academic planning, registration, and pathways to graduation.
- Monitor academic performance and implement proactive outreach and interventions to support persistence and timely degree completion.
- Partner with performing arts faculty and academic leadership to ensure advising aligns with curricular expectations and program structure.
- Connect students with academic and student support resources as appropriate.
- Participate in orientations, recruitment/yield events, and advising-related programming (some evenings and/or weekends required).
- Collaborate with performing arts faculty, program directors, and department chairs on advising matters and student support needs.
- Partner with Student Success and Retention leadership to develop and implement initiatives that strengthen student outcomes.
- Represent performing arts advising in university-wide advising meetings and cross-functional initiatives.
- Contribute to assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts related to advising and student success. Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Work Hours
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed.
- Master’s degree required in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising or student success roles.
- Strong understanding of advising best practices and undergraduate student development.
- Experience working in advising or student success roles within performing arts programs or other creative disciplines preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to advise effectively across both first-year and major student populations.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and institutional partners.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with advising and student success platforms (e.g., Banner, Degree Works, OnTrack, CRM Advise) preferred.
- Commitment to promoting equitable student outcomes and supporting a positive student experience across all academic levels.
