Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility to promote independence and comfort.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and assisting with tasks like catheter care and medication administration under supervision.
- Ensure patient safety through proper manual handling practices, safe lifting techniques such as Hoyer lift operation, and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Document patient interactions thoroughly in medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient transfers using appropriate transfer methods.
- Provide specialized care for patients with conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, including memory care and behavioral support.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent credential recognized by state licensing boards.
- Experience working in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities, or home care environments preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs measurement, and basic life support (BLS) certification required.
- Prior experience with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or infectious diseases is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques and equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with healthcare teams and caregivers while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
