Melter – 1st Shift | Wahoo, NE
Schedule: Mon–Thurs, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay: Starting at $20 /hr (Depending on Experience)
Bring the heat—literally. Omaha Steel is looking for dependable, detail-oriented individuals to join our team as a Melter, operating state-of-the-art Inductotherm induction furnaces. Whether you're an experienced melter or a motivated candidate with strong math skills (including decimals and percentages), attention to detail, and the willingness to work safely around molten metal—we'll provide comprehensive on-the-job training to qualified candidates to help you succeed in this hands-on role.

What You'll Do:
- Melt and pour steel using 600kW & 1500kW Inductotherm furnaces
- Maintain furnace linings (including measuring, patching, removal, replacement, and sintering) and follow strict melt procedures
- Weigh charge materials/alloy additions accurately, make adjustments based on meltdown results, maintain precise records, and interpret furnace alarms
- Safely operate overhead cranes with rigging and assist shakeout/pouring crews as needed
What You Bring:
- Basic understanding of chemistry/elements and advanced math skills (decimals, percentages)
- Ability to use a tape measure, analog scale, and follow detailed verbal/written instructions
- Comfort working safely in extreme temperatures, dusty environments, and directly with molten metal (3,000°F ) and sparks
- Strong work ethic, reliable attendance, communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team
- High school diploma or equivalent; must read, write, and speak English fluently
- Physical ability to repetitively lift up to 100 lbs (assistance available for lifts over 50 lbs)
