The Opportunity
We are seeking a Data Center Construction Superintendent to oversee operations on a large-scale, mission-critical project. This individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, timely, and high-quality execution of all construction activities during 24-hour operations. Working closely with the operations team, subcontractors, and client representatives, this leader will be relied upon to resolve challenges quickly, maintain project momentum, and safeguard critical path milestones.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of MEP and mission-critical systems, proven leadership in managing crews during operations, and the ability to make decisive, solutions-oriented calls in fast-moving environments.
Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight
- Supervise all on-site construction activities during shift operations.
- Ensure construction aligns with architectural, engineering, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate progress tracking, as-builts, and compliance documentation.
Schedule & Coordination
- Execute and monitor project schedules to maintain critical path milestones.
- Coordinate sequencing of trades to prevent delays.
- Adjust resources and plans as needed to meet deadlines.
Subcontractor & Crew Management
- Lead subcontractors and direct crews on-site.
- Assign responsibilities, monitor productivity, and resolve conflicts.
- Enforce accountability for safety, quality, and performance standards.
Safety & Compliance
- Uphold OSHA standards and Overwatch safety protocols.
- Conduct night shift safety briefings, inspections, and audits.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and client requirements.
Problem-Solving & Decision Making
- Respond quickly to field issues such as equipment failures, material shortages, or technical challenges.
- Make real-time decisions to minimize downtime and maintain progress.
Communication & Reporting
- Serve as the primary point of contact for shift activities with project management, operations, and clients.
- Provide detailed daily logs and reports documenting progress, issues, and resolutions.
- Ensure seamless coordination with day-shift leadership to maintain continuity.
Data Center Expertise
- Supervise the installation and integration of MEP systems (electrical distribution, UPS, generators, cooling systems, fire suppression).
- Ensure construction aligns with operational requirements to minimize disruption to live or adjacent data center systems.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3 years in mission-critical construction, with at least 3 years dedicated to data center builds.
- MEP Expertise: In-depth knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, chilled water plants, UPS, generators, and precision cooling.
- Data Center Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with redundant power systems, raised floors, fire suppression, and commissioning processes.
- Night Shift Leadership: Demonstrated success managing night shift operations, including planning, supervision, and safety oversight.
- Safety & Compliance: Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and mission-critical safety requirements; proven track record of low or zero incident performance.
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills; ability to manage multi-trade teams and maintain strong client/vendor relationships.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with the ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work on-site in varied conditions, including mechanical rooms, electrical areas, and elevated structures.
- Availability: Willingness to work night shifts and extended hours during critical phases.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position may operate in a combination of office, remote, and active construction site environments, depending on project assignment and business needs. Employees must be able to perform essential job functions safely and effectively in both professional and field conditions.
- Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, twist, bend, and climb stairs or ladders for extended periods while navigating uneven, unpaved, or obstructed terrain when on-site.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to travel to and between job sites and access all areas of an active construction zone, including raised platforms, scaffolding, and confined spaces.
- Must be able to tolerate outdoor weather conditions and exposure to dust, noise, vibrations, and construction-related odors.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and other personnel while maintaining situational awareness in high-activity environments.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety vests, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots are required when visiting or working on active construction sites.
- This role requires visual acuity sufficient to read drawings, specifications, and safety signage, and to observe site activity.
