This is a professional position responsible for providing crisis assessments for all age groups during the regular work day and after hours on-call. Such crisis services may be in office sites, hospital sites, or jails in the community. In addition, the job includes delivering short-term intensive crisis therapy services and inpatient screening. Other responsibilities include education and prevention activities, jail mental health services, and critical incident stress debriefing.

This is a full-time, benefited position working at the James Street Complex located at 12265 James Street, Holland, MI. Typical working hours vary and are rotated on a monthly basis.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides consistently high quality crisis assessments across all populations, and arranges for appropriate dispositions and follow through.
  • Arrives at accurate diagnoses based upon available information.
  • Completes appropriate documentation in accordance with agency and external standards.
  • Performs liaison duties with jails to assure high quality mental health treatment for CMHOC consumers.
  • Actively participates in all department, team, staff, or other meetings.
  • Provides high quality, goal oriented, short term, and crisis oriented therapy and case management.
  • Consistently maintains billable activity within the expected range.
  • Responds to emergency requests within established time parameters.
  • Provides critical incident stress debriefing as requested.
  • Provides training as requested.
  • Provides professional oversight for crisis residential consumers.
  • Provides clinical consultation to the Ottawa County Help line during regular business hours.
  • Helps support an equitable, safe, diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Provides crisis stabilization services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Note: The crisis team clinician assigned to the jail will provide jail specific services including both mental health and substance use disorder assessment, referral and case management, as well as brief therapy; and the development and coordination of the Naloxone distribution program at the jail.

Required Education, Training And Experience

Master's degree in social work, psychology, or a related mental health field is required. Two years of relevant professional experience in a mental health agency preferred. Â Lived experiences with mental illness, or substance use disorders are valued. Â

Candidates with a bachelor's degree in social work with license will be considered. Bachelor's degree candidates would be paid at paygrade 8, which is from $26.74 to $34.77.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess or obtain State of Michigan licensure as a Licensed Master's Social Worker, Limited Licensed Master's Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Limited Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Limited Licensed Counselors, or Temporary Limited License Psychologist.Â
  • Â Additional certification as a CADC, CAADC and CCS are preferred.
  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree will be considered with licensure. Bachelor's degree candidates would be paid at paygrade 8, which is from $26.74 to $34.77.
  • Candidates who are close to obtaining the required licensing may be considered.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Thorough working knowledge and use of crisis intervention and related skills.
  • Working knowledge of Michigan Department of Community Health and CMH rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements governing the confidentiality of patient health information, including the provisions of HIPAA.
  • Thorough working knowledge of professional and ethical practice standards
  • Thorough working knowledge of the DSM-V.
  • Thorough working knowledge of varied therapeutic short-term interventions.
  • Flexibility in the selection of appropriate interventions for each consumer.
  • Good working knowledge of the probate court system, including processes and procedures for involuntary hospitalization.
  • Capacity to work effectively within agency parameters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer word processing skills sufficient to produce timely clinical notes.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Shows willingness to learn and use new skills and takes regular advantage of training and staff development opportunities and resources.
  • Demonstrates abilities to link an individual to appropriate resources.
  • Thorough working knowledge of proper medical record documentation and management.
