The Stormwater Field Specialist supports the operational and regulatory functions of the Ottawa County Water Resources Office by conducting field inspections, monitoring drainage infrastructure, and assisting with stormwater permit compliance (including MS4 requirements). - Conduct routine and complaint-based inspections of county stormwater infrastructure, including open drains, storm sewers, retention/detention basins, and green infrastructure installations.
- Identify and document system deficiencies, blockages, erosion, illicit discharges, or non-compliant conditions.
- Assist with MS4 permit implementation by supporting public education, outfall inspections, BMP tracking, and pollution prevention efforts in the field.
- Provide technical field support for project planning and construction, including preliminary condition assessments and post-construction inspections.
- Coordinate with contractors, property owners, townships, and internal teams to address maintenance needs and ensure clear communication of field conditions and corrective actions.
- Support the prioritization of drain maintenance based on inspection findings, historical trends, and environmental impact.
- Utilize GIS and mobile technology to record and manage inspection data, photographs, and drainage infrastructure inventories.
- Respond to field inquiries from the public and other agencies, providing professional, informed, and courteous communication.
- Assist in emergency response efforts during flooding or infrastructure failures.
- Maintain field equipment, vehicles, and inspection tools in safe and working condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
