The Company:

Orsman Design (ODI) is an award-winning design firm for interior and landscape lighting. With offices in Southampton, New York and Miami, ODI serves clients throughout the United States and internationally.

The Role:

The Design Project Coordinator prepares drawings of architectural lighting designs for interior and landscape projects according to specifications provided by Project Managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes but not limited to:)

  • Develop creative lighting plans, elevations and detailed artistic designs using AutoCAD
  • Generate visually appealing project documentation using Microsoft Office Suite apps (Excel, Word, and Publisher)
  • Design and prepare engaging presentation documents for client meetings showcasing artistic concepts
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of aesthetically pleasing fixtures, orders, and estimates
  • Assist project managers in meeting project deadlines with a focus on artistic and design excellence
  • Accurately interpret and draft artistic markups to maintain design integrity
  • Maintain precise counts of fixture quantities and specifications, ensuring they align with the overall design vision
  • Create detailed electronic meeting notes during site visits and meetings, emphasizing artistic considerations
  • Generate comprehensive fixture load schedules and spreadsheets that reflect design aesthetics
  • Calculate square footage of projects based on detailed and artistic floor plans
  • Communicate daily with project managers on the status of artistic tasks and deliverables
  • Support design project managers in creating graphics and visual presentations
  • Upload and maintain organized and visually appealing files on cloud-based drawing storage platforms
  • Ensure the organization of the project directory and Company files and that they reflect high artistic standards
  • Perform other art-related responsibilities as assigned, contributing to the overall design and aesthetic goals of the projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Special Requirements:

  • Gain awareness of lighting fixtures and electronics hardware in the lighting industry
  • Become adept in reading and communicating lighting fixture specifications
  • Understand construction documentations to articulate lighting conditions

Qualifications:

  • Minimum education of Associate’s Degree required (architecture or design related field preferred). Bachelor’s degree in architecture or design preferred.
  • Experience in architecture or design related field highly preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Adobe photoshop and Microsoft Office required; knowledge of Rhino is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills required to communicate effectively with team members and clients
  • Self-starter and the ability to execute tasks with little direction
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English
  • Ability to interpret notes and sketches to deduce direction/information
  • Thrive in a small team environment; Coordinate workload effectively with colleagues to meet project deadlines

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid work opportunity – 4 days in NYC office; 1 day work from home
  • Summer Fridays between Memorial Day and Labor Day - remote half days
  • Week between Christmas and New Years is a paid holiday
  • Full benefit program including Firm contribution to 401k plan
  • Salary will be based on experience and skills
  • Must be employment authorized to work in the US; Firm does not provide sponsorship
