About Origin Gallery
Origin Gallery, located in the heart of downtown Missoula at 124 N Higgins Ave, is a high-end western art gallery specializing in fine art, antiques, and historic memorabilia. We serve a discerning clientele ranging from serious collectors to first-time buyers of exceptional works. We are seeking a professional, experienced, and grounded Head Gallerist to lead our in-person operations and help steward the gallery’s growth and reputation.
About the Role
The Head Gallerist will oversee the daily operations of the gallery, manage 1–2 staff members, and serve as the front-facing presence for Origin’s VIP clientele. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines sales, curatorial judgment, and high-touch service in a boutique environment. The ideal candidate has experience in fine art or auction settings, is comfortable working with high-net-worth individuals, and thrives in an environment that values discretion, excellence, and direct communication.
This is a full-time, on-site role in Missoula, Montana. Willingness to relocate is required.
Core Responsibilities
Gallery Operations & Leadership
- Supervise day-to-day operations, opening/closing, scheduling, and staff oversight
- Lead client engagement and sales in the gallery space, ensuring a polished and informed customer experience
- Maintain inventory accuracy using digital tools (e.g., ArtLogic, Airtable, ArtBinder, etc.)
- Oversee condition reporting, storage, and conservation logistics
- Collaborate closely with gallery owners on strategy, pricing, and key acquisitions
Client Relations
- Represent the gallery professionally with VIP clients, institutions, and collectors
- Build and maintain a private client database (CRM), tracking preferences and communications
- Handle inquiries discreetly, including valuations, private sales, and appraisals
- Travel occasionally to manage consignments, attend events, or assist with acquisitions
Brand & Cultural Stewardship
- Assist in developing and installing thematic exhibitions or seasonal rotations
- Write or edit catalog copy, artist bios, and wall text
- Represent the gallery at local openings, collector events, and regional art fairs
- Collaborate on promotional efforts (email newsletters, events, or digital campaigns)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years handling fine art, preferably in a gallery or auction setting
- Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in art history, business, or a related field
- Prior gallery or retail leadership experience strongly preferred
- Understanding of western American art and historic material culture is a significant advantage
- Experience using a camera and preparing images or listings for digital platforms
- Proficiency with inventory software, digital tools, and general business technology
- Reliable, honest, and punctual
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills — capable of engaging high-end clientele
- Comfort managing 1–2 team members
- Must be willing to relocate and live full-time in Missoula, MT
- Must be legally eligible to handle firearms (knowledge of federal/state compliance is required)
