Job Description
General Functions
Responsible for applying herbicide to manage vegetation in and along stormwater drainage canals, water retention ponds and ditches.
Under the general supervision of a Foreman or Supervisor, employees in this position mix, loads and sprays herbicide utilizing backpack sprayers, spray trucks, UTV or boats to manage invasive plants. Must complete daily spray records, calibrate and maintain spray equipment, organize and maintain work areas for efficient operation and the safety of the applicator and general public.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
¿ Ability to calculate application rates from product label directions.
¿ Perform routine maintenance on application equipment for efficient, safe use.
¿ Employees in this position may be required to performing other duties based on Stormwater Division operational requirements. .
¿ Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks based on Department / Division needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in outdoor maintenance and use of commercial landscape, tractors, or other medium to light duty equipment. Must have physical ability to with stand inclement weather conditions while working outside and sufficient strength to carry heavy equipment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Restricted Use of Pesticide license (aquatic, right-of-way or ornamental/turf) or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
Must possess and maintain an applicable Florida driver license or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Preferences
Experience mixing, loading and applying herbicide in a commercial, government or large scale environment. Must be able to work in hot, humid conditions, remote locations with no shade.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances.
