Job Description

General Functions

Engineer I

Performs routine engineering assignments. This is an entry-level classification performing professional engineering work. An employee assigned to this classification may be required to

supervise assigned staff working on all phases of a project. Work is performed with some independence under the limited supervision of the designated supervisor.

Engineer II

Performs advanced professional engineering work. This is advanced engineering work with some supervisory responsibilities. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for more complex and diverse projects. Supervision is exercised over a staff or crew of technical or clerical positions. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor.

Engineer III

Performs advanced engineering work. Provides supervision over one or more major engineering activities. This is advanced professional engineering work with extensive supervisory duties. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for supervising subordinates in one or more phases of engineering. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Reviews plans and engineering reports, as well as hydrologic and hydraulic models, for subdivisions, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with FEMA and Orange County Codes and Regulations as related to floodplain impacts.

Reviews and analyzes (a) stormwater management systems associated with residential, commercial, and industrial developments, (b) drainage studies to establish 100-year flood elevations, and (c) updating floodplain delineation.

Assists with the preparation of Development Review Committee reports, and reviews Land Use Plans, Development Plans, and Preliminary Subdivision Plans as necessary.

This position also reviews and approves floodplain permits and prepares general correspondence, including letters regarding permit modifications, denials, and violations.

Furthermore, this role assists with the county¿s participation in FEMA¿s National Flood Insurance Program and the Community Rating System (CRS).

Minimum Qualifications

ENGINEER I

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a field of Engineering. In Lieu of the degree requirements additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

ENGINEER II

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a field of Civil Engineering and one year of experience in Engineering or related field. In Lieu of the degree requirements additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

ENGINEER III

A Bachelor's degree in a field of Civil Engineering and four years of experience in Engineering or related field. In Lieu of the degree requirements additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Must possess and maintain a Professional Engineer license from the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers or be able to obtain it within (6) six months from date of hire.

Preference

¿ Bachelor¿s, or advanced level degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in Civil, or Environmental Engineering.

¿ Experienced in the areas of stormwater, drainage, or flood plain management

¿ Possess a Certification in Flood Plain Management

¿ Possesses experience in permitting with State / Regulatory agencies

Salary Information

Engineer I

Pay Grade: 016 - From $26.94 to $35.03

Engineer II

Pay Grade: 018 - From $31.30 to $40.70

Engineer III

Pay Grade: 021 - From $39.21 to $50.97

FLSA Status: Exempt
