What are the responsibilities and job description for the Analytics Engineer position at Optomi?
We are seeking an Analytics Engineer to own the semantic layer and data mart strategy that connects raw operational and financial data to the business teams who depend on it. A significant portion of this role will focus on modeling data replicated from SAP and other financial and operational platforms into Snowflake, building clean, tested, and well-documented dbt models that serve Hex dashboards and Snowflake semantic models queryable by LLMs.

What type of experience does the right candidate have:
- 3 years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or BI Engineering roles delivering production dbt models at scale
- Strong hands-on experience with dbt Core/Cloud, including staging, intermediate, and mart-layer modeling, incremental models, macros, testing, and documentation
- Working knowledge of Snowflake, including query optimization, clustering, result caching, Time Travel, and cost-aware data model design
- Advanced SQL skills, including CTEs, window functions, recursive queries, and query performance tuning
- Experience with Python for scripting, automation, and custom testing
- Experience developing analytical datasets that support BI and dashboarding platforms; Hex experience strongly preferred
- Experience with Git, code review, and CI/CD for dbt projects
- Practical experience using AI coding assistants with an understanding of data privacy, security, and responsible AI practices
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- dbt Analytics Engineer certification
- Experience with Snowflake semantic models, Cortex Analyst, dbt Semantic Layer, or MetricFlow
- Experience with Dagster or other modern data orchestration platforms
- Energy, utilities, or financial services industry experience
- Knowledge of energy gross margin, power generation metrics, or energy trading/market data
- Experience with Snowflake Cortex, including LLM functions or Cortex Analyst
- Familiarity with SOX, GDPR, CCPA, or other data governance and regulatory compliance frameworks
- Experience managing dbt Cloud jobs, environments, and orchestration
- Experience with GitLab CI or Azure DevOps for analytics engineering workflows
