HSE Manager or Director

Opti Staffing Group
Anchorage, AK Full Time
POSTED ON 9/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/2/2026

The Opportunity

We are partnering with an Alaska-based organization seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Leader to lead the safety function across complex flight, ground, and support operations.

This is a highly visible individual contributor leadership role reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the COO, senior leadership, Operations, and frontline teams. The position may be structured at the Manager or Director level depending on the successful candidate’s experience and leadership capabilities.

As the organization’s primary safety professional, you’ll own both the strategic and hands-on sides of the safety function—from Safety Management Systems, regulatory compliance, risk prevention, and incident investigation to field engagement, reporting, and day-to-day program execution.

We’re looking for someone who can build credibility at every level of the organization, maintain a meaningful presence in operations, and influence action without needing direct authority.

  • What You’ll DoLead the organization’s safety strategy and Safety Management System (SMS) with a strong focus on injury and incident prevention.
  • Maintain a visible presence across operational locations throughout Alaska to identify hazards, understand employee concerns, and strengthen safety practices.
  • Promote Just Culture, employee participation, safety reporting, accountability, and organizational learning.
  • Identify emerging risks and develop practical prevention strategies in partnership with operational leaders.
  • Lead or coordinate investigations involving injuries, incidents, near misses, and significant hazards, including root-cause and contributing-factor analysis.
  • Develop and track corrective and preventive actions through completion.
  • Analyze injury trends, incident data, hazard reports, employee feedback, and other HSE metrics to identify risk and prevention priorities.
  • Maintain applicable OSHA, CAMTS, state, federal, aviation, EMS, and other safety-related compliance requirements, documentation, audits, and reporting.
  • Coordinate safety programs, drills, inspections, meetings, hazard-recognition activities, and required documentation.
  • Oversee applicable occupational health and workforce safety programs, including health screenings, fit-for-duty processes, respiratory protection, exposure prevention and response, and bloodborne pathogen requirements.
  • Partner with Operations, Clinical Education, People Operations, and other departments where safety intersects with training, employee injuries, workers’ compensation, and operational practices.
  • Serve as the primary safety advisor to the CEO and a key advisor to the COO and senior leadership on significant risks, regulatory matters, and prevention priorities.
  • Personally manage the administrative and operational responsibilities required to maintain an effective single-person safety function.

What We’re Looking For

This position requires someone with strong technical safety knowledge and the leadership presence to influence people across frontline, operational, and executive teams.

The ideal candidate is visible, approachable, curious, and comfortable getting into the operation to understand how work is actually being performed. You should be equally comfortable advising the CEO on a significant safety risk, conducting an incident investigation, analyzing safety trends, or handling the administrative follow-through necessary to keep programs effective and compliant.

  • Qualifications5 years of progressively responsible safety experience preferred, ideally within EMS, aviation, healthcare, transportation, emergency services, or another high-risk operational environment.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective action, hazard identification, and injury prevention.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and occupational safety principles applicable to high-risk operational environments.
  • Ability to analyze safety data, identify trends and risk, and translate findings into practical prevention strategies.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, facilitation, and influencing skills across frontline and executive audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and successfully balance strategic leadership with hands-on program administration.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to operational locations throughout Alaska.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Safety, Emergency Management, Healthcare Administration, Aviation Safety, Public Health, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Preferred Credentials

Professional safety certification such as CSP, CIH, CSHO, or CHSP, as well as experience with Just Culture, High Reliability principles, or comparable safety frameworks, is preferred.

Compensation

$140,000–$165,000 annually DOE 15–20% bonus eligibility.

The position may be hired at the Manager or Director level depending on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.

If you’re an experienced safety professional who wants real ownership of the safety function, direct access to executive leadership, and the opportunity to influence safety across a complex operational environment, we’d like to connect.
