Position Title:      HVAC Maintenance Specialist, Permanent Support Staff

Locations:            All School District Facilities

Reports To:          Property Services Manager

Available:             May 2025

Hours/Schedule: 8 hours/day; 5 days/week; (Benefit Eligible)

                            7:00 AM – 3:30 PM / Monday – Friday

SUMMARY:  HVAC Specialists are responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all cooling and heating systems district wide.  HVAC Specialists are responsible for keeping all equipment operational ensuring that there is not any disruption to the education service to the students, visitors, and community.

BENEFITS TO STUDENTS:  HVAC Specialists are essential for building maintenance and help to establish a positive school climate and appearance. They provide extremely important support services to administrators and other staff members to assure that the facility provides a clean and safe environment for implementing the instructional program. This service directly benefits students by assuring that the district is providing facilities that are safe, functional, comfortable, aesthetically appealing and one in which the students can be proud to attend.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of HVAC elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district.

1. Follows appropriate and relevant federal, state, and local safety code requirements as well as adheres to School Board policies. 
2. Repairs and maintains all types of air conditioning and refrigeration units.
3. Repairs and maintains gas, hot water, steam, and oil boilers and hot air furnace.
4. Repairs and maintains air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils, and radiators along with other mechanical heating and ventilating equipment.
5. Monitors and coordinates control panels and thermostats of all systems to maintain standard working temperature.
6. Performs regular preventive maintenance and boiler water treatment programs for all heating and air conditioning equipment.
7. Installs and tests new equipment.
8. Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relation to assignments.
9. Performs district wide grounds maintenance work such as snow shoveling, plowing, salting.
10. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies.
11. Assists other maintenance personnel in installation and maintenance of facilities equipment and infrastructure, particularly in HVAC related skill activity.
12. Performs all other duties, which may be temporarily assigned by the Property Services Manager.

3. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward.  The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.
4. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
5. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. such as a toolbox.
6. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such as motors.
7. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and air compressors. 
8. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors.
2. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.
3. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust.
4. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

1. High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
2. Experience as a journeyman HVAC mechanic
3. Valid driver's license
4. Low Pressure Boiler License
5. Unlimited Journeyman Refrigeration License preferred
