Job Summary
The Accountant is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger system and in preparing basic financial reports. The Accountant will assist in insuring accurate and timely general ledger reconciliation. The Accountant will perform a variety of professional accounting functions in support of the Accounting Department, including supporting audit and tax preparation processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reconciles balance sheet, P & L and subsidiary journals.
- Prepares and posts accounting entries and journal entries.
- Identifies variances and completes appropriate adjusting journal entries.
- Assists with accruals.
- Assists with tax information.
- Assists with month end close.
- Analyzes financial information and prepares ad hoc financial analysis and reports.
- Suggests ways to improve accounting procedures and operations.
- Assists in providing information and supporting documentation to outside auditors and tax accountants.
- Assists in development and documentation of new business processes and accounting policies.
- Prepares monthly reports for internal and external customers.
- Processes required filings by executing established processes and adhering to deadlines.
- Researches complex issues and suggests resolutions.
- Understands and interprets state laws as they relate to the business.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP.
- Maintains a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Works well in a team environment.
- Keeps accurate records of time worked and submits timesheets at appropriate times.
- Adheres to all Company safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Works scheduled shifts with predictable and reliable attendance, adhering to department schedule.
- Works weekends and evenings, including more than 8 hours a day when the needs of the business demand.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field
- Three years of accounting experience in a corporate environment
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
- Strong analytical skills
Preferred
- Masters Degree in Accounting, Business Management or related field
- Knowledge of AS400 and Content Manager
