Job Summary & Responsibilities Be responsible and accountable for the Mechanical engineering design projects allocated. Attain goals and objectives of assigned projects, communicating progress against plan. To keep up to date all project work, and manage specification / design documentation. To enforce policy and version / number controls on all design documentation. To keep abreast of standards and information relevant to the company’s engineering products, and maintain files of such information. Continuing professional development that highlights areas where knowledge and experience should be acquired or enhanced. Qualifications Responsible for design projects/products as designated by the Manager Hardware Engineering. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, concept design, specification/detailing of components/assemblies, development, testing, documentation and support of the designated projects/products. Together with team members and customers, define project/product requirements and meet these requirements. Establish and meet designated project/product objectives including the relevant legislative standards for SEMI and CE etc. Report on status of designated projects/products on a daily basis (or more frequently as required) to the Manager Hardware Engineering. Ensure that wherever possible customer / Management expectations and specifications for a project/product are met. Assist other team members where appropriate. Generate / Review MRS as required. Occasional travel both within the USA and overseas may be required in support of Engineering projects. Submit status reports to the Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering as part of the morning review meeting Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the Engineering Director or Manager. Duties: Manage individual projects in accordance with departmental and company-wide procedures. Ensure all products are designed in compliance with the relevant legislative standards in place at that time. Design, and document projects with use of Engineering support programs (SolidWorks, etc). Oversee and if necessary help build/test new designs and prototypes. Co-ordinate the creation and maintenance of engineering documentation including but not limited to Detail and Assy drawings, Bills of Materials, Engineering change notices, Test instructions, and component specifications. Work with Electronics, Optical and Software Engineers to ensure that the product designs are successful. Work with Supply Chain personnel as required ensuring suppliers deliver to agreed specifications. Provide training to customers and co-workers as requested and where appropriate. Offer advice or assistance to Manufacturing when required to overcome any build issues or technical difficulties. Assist other departments, such as Applications, Service and Sales/Marketing as required. Follow departmental polices and procedures including, but not limited to: Engineering design standards Configuration management Sustaining engineering Manufacturing engineering Engineering change/Release procedures Safety standards such as SEMI, CE Competencies: 1. Education and training Ideal candidates should hold a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering. 2. Required technical experience Four years plus of relevant technical experience is desired. In-depth knowledge and experienced in use of and support of 3D CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor or Pro-E Experienced in the use of MRP tools such as Syspro Good knowledge of modern manufacturing and design methods, Demonstrated experience of concept design to final production manufacturing engineering of projects and products Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc 3. Desired technical experience SolidWorks 4. Management Experience No prior managerial experience is necessary or required, but project experience is preferred. 5. Personal qualities Analytical and methodical with an attention to detail Strong problem solving skills Flexible and positive attitude Self-motivated, shows initiative and common sense Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision Good written and verbal communication skills Willingness to gain knowledge of Nanometrics’ technologies, products and markets (e.g. semiconductor industry).
