What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician Assistant position at OneWorld Community Health Centers?
Job Duties The PA works as part of the medical provider team, performing a variety of direct primary care services to patients. This includes physical examinations, assessment, diagnosis, treatment plans, medication management, lab review, and/or referrals, including hospitalization when necessary. The PA also monitors the general management plan for assigned patients. The PA performs these functions under the general supervision of a licensed physician.
- Obtains complete medical history from patients and/or their family members and performs complete physical examinations, all in consultation with a supervising physician.
- Provides health education to patients and their families as appropriate.
- Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies according to approved protocols.
- Diagnoses both acute and chronic illnesses on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports, and/or the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approved protocols.
- Prescribes medications as needed according to therapeutic goals. Explains medications and treatment plans to patients and their families.
- Formulates, initiates, and monitors management plans for assigned patients using approved protocols and/or consultation with a supervising physician.
- Refers patients who require more intensive services to a supervising physician, specialist, or hospital as necessary. Follows up on patients’ progress.
