DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in a wastewater treatment plant and
has responsibility during an assigned shift for the performance of operation and allied plant maintenance
activities. The work is performed under direct supervision of a Senior Wastewater Treatment Plant
Operator, who functions as shift leader. Employees in this position exercise a moderate degree of
independent judgment in operating controls, reading gauges and meters, record keeping and related
activities. Supervision is exercised over subordinate employees. The incumbent performs related work as
required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of application.
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND six (6) months of
experience in assisting in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license at time of appointment. License must remain valid
throughout appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
