Role Description The Producer – Weekly Briefing with John Hines & After Hours role is a full-time, on-site position based in Washington, DC. This role is responsible for planning, producing, and executing weekly news and talk programming for “Weekly Briefing with John Hines” and “After Hours,” including segment development, guest booking, and rundown creation. The producer will coordinate closely with anchors, correspondents, writers, and technical staff to shape editorial content, manage scripts, and ensure timely, accurate delivery of all segments. Daily tasks include researching news topics, identifying story angles, preparing interview questions, supervising show tapings, and overseeing post-production elements to ensure broadcast-ready quality. The role also involves monitoring breaking news, adjusting show content as needed, and maintaining strong communication across editorial and production teams to meet tight deadlines.
Qualifications
- Experience in television or digital news production, including segment planning, rundown creation, and coordinating live or taped shows.
- Strong editorial judgment, research skills, and the ability to develop compelling story ideas and interview topics for news and political programming.
- Proficiency in scriptwriting, copy editing, and reviewing content for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to network standards.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with on-air talent, newsroom staff, and technical crews, and to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure.
- Familiarity with newsroom and production software, studio operations, and basic post-production workflows.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, media production, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior experience producing political, news, or public affairs programming and knowledge of current events and public policy issues is highly beneficial.
