Role Description The Script Writer / Booker is a full-time, on-site role based in Washington, DC. This role is responsible for writing clear, engaging news scripts and segment copy for live and recorded programs, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with editorial standards. The position involves booking guests, coordinating interviews, and working closely with producers, anchors, and the control room to structure segments and rundowns. Daily tasks include researching stories and guests, preparing questions and talking points, adapting scripts for breaking news, and revising content under tight deadlines. The Script Writer / Booker collaborates across the newsroom to support overall show production and maintain a smooth workflow from pre-production through live broadcast.
Qualifications
- Strong scriptwriting, scripting, and screenplay skills for news and segment-based programming.
- Demonstrated writing ability with a focus on concise, accurate, and engaging news copy.
- Experience or familiarity with video production workflows and broadcast environments.
- Effective guest booking skills, including research, outreach, and coordination of interviews.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
