Key Responsibilities for Funeral Director
Family Support & Pre-Planning
- Provide pre-need and at-need funeral arrangement services.
- Educate families on advance planning, including wills, estate planning, and insurance resources.
- Support families during the early stages of grief with empathy and professionalism.
- Review the funeral planning process, requirements, and timelines prior to arrangement conferences.
- Provide the General Price List upon inquiry in compliance with FTC regulations.
Arrangement Conferences & Documentation
- Conduct arrangement conferences to determine service details and family preferences.
- Collect demographic information required for state permits and authorizations.
- Explain disposition options and service costs clearly and compliantly.
- Ensure completion of all required documentation, including:
- General information sheets
- Release authorizations
- FTC disclosures
- Service contracts and payment terms
- Obituary and website authorizations
- Next-of-kin affidavits
Administrative Coordination
- Oversee scheduling and case management systems.
- Collaborate with office coordinators to ensure timely task completion.
- Maintain daily communication with families until services are complete.
Viewings, Visitations & Services
- Ensure proper presentation of the deceased for viewings.
- Review service expectations with families prior to the first viewing.
- Accompany families to the viewing room and offer prayer if requested.
- Direct and oversee funeral, memorial, and committal services.
- Coordinate funeral attendants, clergy, and in-state assistance.
- Ensure timely setup of flowers, equipment, and the deceased.
- Lead processions and provide closing remarks at the cemetery.
- Obtain signed receipts for all documents and keepsakes.
Aftercare Services
- Assist families with death benefit claims.
- Provide grief counseling and estate management resources.
Qualifications
- Valid Funeral Director license as required by state regulations.

Key responsibilities for Embalmer
Clinical Preparation & Embalming
- Coordinate and perform timely removals of the deceased.
- Verify proper identification and tagging at all stages.
- Ensure all required documentation and authorizations are obtained prior to preparation.
- Embalm assigned cases based on condition and service requirements.
- Complete intake forms, embalming reports, and daily condition documentation.
- Communicate any notable conditions or challenges to Funeral Directors.
Preparation & Presentation
- Track preparation milestones (authorization, clothing, casket, photos, viewing date).
- Dress, casket, and cosmetically prepare the deceased per family instructions.
- Transfer the deceased to service locations at least 24 hours prior to viewing.
- Ensure consistent ID verification throughout the preparation process.
Facility & Safety Management
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of preparation rooms and equipment.
- Monitor preparation room inventory and request supplies as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, lifts, and protective equipment.
- Prioritize tasks based on service schedules and deadlines.
Qualifications
