Position Description

The Shop Mechanic will maintain diesel equipment, fleet vehicles, trailers, Serco 300, front end loaders, skid steers and other shop operation equipment by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements. This includes brake and airbag replacement, fixing air lines, along with repairing engine parts on semi's and/or equipment. In addition to correcting vehicle deficiencies, make adjustments and maintain maintenance records. Position also includes helping maintain wood chipping and conveyor system as needed.

Major Areas of Responsibilities
  • Perform brake and airbag replacements and repair air lines.
  • Repair conveyor belts, motors, bearings, and pulleys in the conveyor system.
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment, and trailers to identify wear, damage, and needed repairs.
  • Complete preventive maintenance, component upgrades, corrosion control, and winterization.
  • Diagnose and repair deficiencies across major systems including electrical, A/C, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulics.
  • Evaluate, repair, and replace tires as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state engine, safety, and emissions standards.
  • Fabricate and repair parts using MIG and stick welding.
  • Maintain accurate service, repair, and preventive maintenance records.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain shop equipment and supplies.
  • Perform occasional local field repairs on hydraulic and diesel equipment.
  • Control costs by using warranties and evaluating parts/service options.
  • Maintain inventory, order supplies, and verify deliveries.
  • Continue technical development by staying current on industry practices and regulations.
  • Support department needs by taking initiative and adapting to new tasks.
  • Repair or replace manual tarping systems on tipper trailers.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary training preferred.
  • 1 year of experience as a diesel mechanic for semis and trailers.
  • Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL preferred (no major violations in last 3 years).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting skills across required systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective English reading and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education is preferred

  • Ability to understand and follow laws, regulations, and company guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse team.
  • Ability to work on uneven outdoor surfaces and in all weather conditions.
  • Regular exposure to moving machinery, vibration, temperature extremes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Flexibility to shift tasks as priorities change.
  • Ability to meet all physical requirements, including lifting up to 100 lbs., climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, pulling, and reaching
