Job Summary
Oversee the efficient and safe transportation of goods by managing logistics operations, fleet maintenance, route optimization, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures product integrity and delivery timeliness while upholding safety standards and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Fleet Manager actively monitors driver performance, delivers real-time coaching, enforces adherence to company policies, and collaborates with leadership to continuously improve routing and delivery strategies.
Major Job Responsibilities/Job Duties:
- Supervise, coach, and support delivery drivers in real-time while on route, providing immediate feedback and guidance to ensure safety, efficiency, and service excellence.
- Main point of contact for suppliers, third-party logistics providers, and external vendors. Manages the flow of products, packaging, and refrigerants to support the distributed fulfillment network and meet customer requirements. Including scheduling, routing, and dispatch using McLeod TMS software.
- Search and evaluate available loads online, focusing on profitable backhaul opportunities to Omaha to maximize asset utilization. Analyze return routes and book loads accordingly. Communicate directly with external customers to bid on jobs, set clear expectations, and secure contracts aligned with business objectives. Make final decisions on load bookings and dispatch drivers, ensuring on-time pickups and deliveries.
- Enter and manage all load data within the Transportation Management System (TMS) for complete tracking and visibility. Handles TMS billing, invoicing while helping the accounting team with monthly reports.
- Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs to ensure all fleet vehicles remain in safe, compliant, and fully operational condition.
- Using Samsara software to enhance safety and regulatory standards for fleet operations for local, state, and federal agencies. Provide Smith System training on best practices, equipment handling, and safety protocols for all fleet drivers.
- Manage all aspects of fleet driver employment, including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance coaching, and terminations.
- Represent the company in fleet-related contract analysis and negotiations, ensuring favorable terms and service levels.
- Drive and support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize transportation operations and elevate service quality. Track and evaluate fleet performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) to uncover opportunities for increased efficiency, cost reduction, and overall operational enhancement.
- Manage the Safe Driving Program, including driver recognition and rewards, accident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Conduct ride-alongs and post-incident follow-ups to ensure driver adherence to safety, performance, and customer service standards
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
- 4- year college degree or equivalent in logistics, business administration, supply chain management, or related field preferred but not required.
- 4 years Dispatching/Routing and DOT compliance knowledge.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License along w/ tractor trailer operational knowledge.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving ability
- Knowledge of Omaha street addresses and US interstate system.
- Clean driving record
- Good communicaiton and organizational skills
- Experience managing large or specialized vehicle fleets (e.g., delivery trucks, service vehicles)
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License along w/ tractor trailer operation knowledge
- Knowledge of McLeod TMS software
- Knowledge of Samsara safety software
- Understanding of transport regulations and safety standards
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and green fleet initiatives
