What are the responsibilities and job description for the Third Shift Trails Snowmaking position at Olympic Regional Development Authority?
Job Summary:
Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid is seeking snowmakers to join the team. Snowmakers are critical to our winter operations and support the daily snowmaking goals on our world class cross-country skiing trails. The ideal candidates will have experience in snowmaking operations a passion for winter sports and a strong work ethic. Holiday and weekend work required, as well as evenings or nights.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Following daily direction and work under the supervision of the snowmaking supervisor to achieve daily snowmaking goals
- Perform basic snowmaking duties including but not limited to:
- Turning guns on and off
- Adjusting guns to make proper snow
- Know location of trails and how to navigate the trails safely
- Work in coordination with another snowmaker
- Follow venue and snowmaking specific safety protocols at all times
- Protect ORDA assets
- Monitoring weather conditions and making adjustments to operations as needed
- Ensuring maintenance is performed on all equipment
Minimum Qualifications:
Previous experience in snowmaking operations or a related field preferred. Willingness to learn basic snowmaking concepts. Ability to work outdoors in cold weather conditions, strong attention to detail and problem solving. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Physically capable of performing job duties, including safely walking long distances through rugged terrain, lifting up to 50 lbs. and working hours outside of the typical work day.
Wage/Salary:
This position is identified as a Grade 16 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $24.94 per hour. The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (sick, vacation, and personal time), paid holidays, health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems, and participation in NYS Deferred Compensation, as defined under the CSEA contract.
