Oliver James is partnered with a global life insurance organization looking for an Investment Accounting Manager. This individual will play a key role in managing the investment accounting function, overseeing financial close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and statutory reporting requirements.
Lead and review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to investments.
Oversee reporting of income, gains, and positions across portfolios including fixed income, equities, and alternatives.
Serve as a subject matter expert on GAAP and statutory investment accounting guidance, supporting disclosures and accounting treatment across asset classes.
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of investment accountants, ensuring clear role definition and professional growth.
Own general ledger entry processes for investment-related items, including documentation, reconciliations, and mapping of new accounts.
Review and approve investment accounting deliverables supporting GAAP and statutory financial reporting.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, auditors, and third-party providers on reporting and accounting initiatives.
Analyze investment income drivers, conduct variance analysis, and resolve inconsistencies in collaboration with stakeholders.
Ensure regulatory and statutory compliance, including RBC, AVR, and SVO ratings.
Lead process improvements, automation initiatives, and strategic reporting projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Participate in onboarding of new asset classes, strategies, and systems while maintaining strong internal controls.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (CPA strongly preferred).
7 years of relevant experience, ideally within insurance or financial services.
Strong technical knowledge of fixed income and investment accounting under both GAAP and statutory frameworks.
Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
Advanced Excel skills; experience with Clearwater, Sovos Stat Reporting, and Power BI preferred.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver accurate results under pressure, and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
Salary : $120,000 - $145,000
