Kitchen/Canning Assistant
This individual works along the crew in the commercial kitchen and butcher shop. This role involves implementing daily tasks to meet weekly objectives, oversight and participation in making batches of jam, pickles and other canned goods, as well as making value-added and ready to eat products to sell in the farm store (aka working off a list of things to do and getting it done). Individual will be working with others but might be doing specific tasks on their own, so they need to be able to work with others well as well as accomplish tasks on their own. This is a production job so the right candidate will work hard and accomplish as much as they can while on the clock.
Work includes:
- Prepping/cutting vegetables/product for jams, pickles and other preserves
- Preparing and cooking recipes from a written recipe
- Jarring (filling) and canning product
- Labelling jars and putting product away on storage shelves
- Creating other value-added or ready to eat food products based on what we have on hand that needs used.
- Ensuring Quality Assurance and Food Safety throughout production
- Documenting batches (date, product count, raw product used)
- Maintaining and cleaning of equipment
- Dishes
- Ensuring the kitchen is clean and sanitized (wiping tables, sweeping floor, taking trash out, and deep cleaning walls and equipment when needed, or oversight of those doing it)
- May include work in butcher shop under the supervision of the Butcher Shop Manager which could include, mixing, grinding or linking sausage or filling and labeling packages.
Qualifications:
- Ability to take instruction and work under a supervisor’s expectations
- Ability to work well independently and with others
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow written instructions or recipes
- Ability to withstand repetitive cutting motions and repetitive lifting (jars)
- Ability to operate by food safety plan and log/document as needed
- High integrity
- Physical ability to stand for an entire shift
- Must be age 18 or over
Hours: 40 hours a week, overtime available and sometimes necessary
Compensation: $17/hr - $18/hr starting pay, based on experience. * pay raise after 30 days, and then again annually.
Schedule: We do four ten hour days (shifts end when work done though so may not be exactly the same every day). 7am-5:30pm and 8am-6:30pm shift options. But we are open to other shifts after being fully trained. Ideally the right candidate would train 4-6 weeks M-Th or Tu-Fr but then be able to transition to cover a Saturday shift or do 5 eight hour days but do a noon to 8:30 schedule.
This position also helps cover the farm store by stocking and assisting customers. This includes the following:
- Opening and closing of store (hanging/removing flags, signs, etc.)
- Cleaning/Dusting/Sweeping/Mopping
- Keeping store stocked and organized
- Helping customers when they come in the store
- Having a general knowledge of what we do here on the farm
- Counting/managing cash drawer
- Working with technology devices to check customers out
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
