Department Summary
Summer camp program counselors will perform a variety of program activities including:
1. Work closely with the Lead Counselor and an assigned Camp Team.
2. Effectively engage assigned campers in a variety of activities with Lead Counselor direction.
3. Implement camp activities for groups of children and teens with disabilities attending summer camp (i.e. swimming, art, music, hiking, games, field trips, etc.) while actively participating with children during activities.
4. Support a safe and positive camp environment by upholding camp rules introduced in staff training and actively supervising campers during camp activities.
5. Deliver personal care assistance in accordance with training including support with meals (breakfast & lunch), swim-time clothing changes, toileting, incontinence care and transfers, while also mentoring and supporting less experienced camp staff with these tasks.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Successful applicants will be required to pass both state and federal background checks and must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Provides care and supervision for children, in a campus-based childcare setting or University-sponsored extracurricular program. Responsibilities include organizing activities, assisting with basic care needs, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Level Summary
Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
No budgetary responsibility.
Problem Solving:
Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.
Independence of Action:
Works under close supervision.
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with school-aged children with and without disabilities is preferred.

Working Condition/Physical Demands:
See department summary above. This is a primarily active, and engaged role in working with youth in various capacities/activities.
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.

These conditions may include exposure to blood borne pathogens, communicable diseases, potentially infectious materials, hazardous chemicals and aggressive behaviors that could occasionally result in minor injuries such as scratches or bruises.

Applicants must be available to work the entire duration of camp, June 15th-July 10th from 7:45am-2:30pm and during mandatory Counselor Training Week, June 8th-12th from 8:00am-3:00pm. There is no camp held on June 19th and July 3rd.
