The Billing Service Specialist supports policyholders and agents through all aspects of the billing cycle.
Essential Functions
- Supports onboarding of new Billing Service Center associates and cross-training initiatives as requested.
- Supports policyholders and agents through all aspects of the billing cycle with outstanding customer service and collaboration with other departments. This includes, but is not limited to:
- answering calls, chats, and email communications with policyholders and/or agents,
- processing payments,
- initiating billing and/or payment changes,
- researching billing discrepancies.
- Identifies and recommends changes in support of policyholder and/or agent feedback and general continuous improvement. Works closely with I.T. to implement and test solutions.
- Actively participates in the rollout of new products, states, and changes to company policies and procedures that impact policyholders and agents as requested.
- Researches, compiles, and/or develops work for corporate and departmental objectives and projects as requested or required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Strong technical, analytical, and cognitive skills for interpreting underwriting and billing guidelines.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for collaborating with and supporting other associates, agents, insured, peers, and numerous outside contacts.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills especially when relating to policyholders and agents.
- Ability to operate various office equipment:
- Computer,
- Printer/scanner,
- Phone equipment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, specifically Excel, Teams and Word.
- Strong organizational skills.
Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, college degree a plus.
- One year of previous experience working in an office environment.
- Insurance industry knowledge a plus.
Supervision Received
- Limited supervision.
- The nature of the work is such that it is performed to a large extent on one’s own responsibility after assignment, with some choice of method.
- Occasionally develops own methods.
