Director of Wellness Center

Position Summary:

The Director of Wellness Center provides leadership, vision, and oversight for the university's counseling and mental health programs. This position is responsible for the administration, clinical supervision, and delivery of comprehensive counseling services designed to support student success and emotional well-being. The Director fosters a campus culture that prioritizes mental health awareness, inclusion, and proactive wellness support.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide individual, group and family counseling services for enrolled students.
• Provide strategic leadership and management for Counseling Services, including policy development, budget oversight, and staff supervision.
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate clinical and administrative staff, including counselors, interns, and support personnel.
• Establish and maintain professional and ethical standards consistent with state laws and accrediting bodies (e.g., APA, ACA, NASW).
• Participate in the university's behavioral intervention team
• In coordination with the Dean of Students, help lead the university's response to mental health crises, including suicide risk assessments and coordination with Public Safety, Residence Life, and other departments.
• Develop and implement crisis response protocols and after-hours coverage plans.
• Provide consultation and training for faculty, staff, and student leaders on student mental health and crisis response.
• Partner with university departments (i.e. Accessibility Services, Residence Life, Health Services) to promote integrated wellness initiatives.
• Collaborate with local community providers and agencies to coordinate referrals and external support when needed.
• Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in college mental health.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, or master's degree in counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health discipline.
• Current state licensure (Psychologist, LPCC, LISW, LMFT, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or administrative role.
• Experience providing counseling services in a college setting.
• Competence in program evaluation, data analysis, and use of electronic health record systems.
• Strong knowledge of student development theory, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.
• Experience working with diverse student populations and promoting equity in mental health care.
• Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with sound judgment.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships across campus and in the community.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
