Office of Unemployment Insurance Operations (OUIO)
This position resides in the Compliance Section within Integrity. This position requires a thorough knowledge of auditing, accounting, Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax laws, and a working knowledge of UI benefits.
This position will be headquartered in an ODJFS facility at one of the following locations:
Columbus
Akron
Dayton
What You’ll Do
The job entails:
Knowledge of UI Tax Law, Working knowledge of UI Benefits, strong knowledge of accounting principles and auditing standards. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
The ideal individual should have a thorough knowledge of the Unemployment Insurance Program and know how to apply UI law to auditing situations. Successful candidates must be detail-oriented, have excellent math and communication skills, and can work well independently and in a team environment. This person should also be able to communicate efficiently with internal and external customers, have strong self-management skills, be flexible and have strong organizational skills.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Flex schedule may be available, dependent upon business needs.
Travel: This position requires travel to multiple counties.

Pay Information
This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 32. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $29.23 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.

The job entails:
- Traveling to an 8 to 10 county area to review payroll and business records of employers verifying compliance with UI law and regulations.
- Reviewing multiple sources of information to verify the employer has reported and paid the UI taxes appropriately.
- Gathering and classifying information to make an accurate decision.
- Educating employers regarding UI laws.
- Juggling multiple work assignments, while paying attention to detail and meeting deadlines. UI auditors are required to complete a set number of audits per month in addition to other types of assignments. Working with deadlines is crucial.
- Working independently and in a team setting.
- Being flexible.
- Communicating with all types of people.
- Operating a personal computer, a calculator, and applicable software applications to create audit reports and worksheets.

Option 1
The ideal candidate, at minimum, must have the following:
- 12 months experience as External Auditor 1, 66461.
Option 2
- 4 years experience in auditing or accounting, which must have included 2 years auditing experience in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description.
Option 3
- Completion of undergraduate core coursework in accounting, business administration, computer science or related field AND 24 months experience in auditing or accounting which must have included 12 months auditing experience in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description.
OPTION 4
- Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
