The Medical Director is responsible for providing comprehensive primary care and overseeing all medical services within the facility. The role ensures high-quality, person-centered care while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, including ICF/IID, CMS and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) standards.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Medical Oversight (60%)
- Provide comprehensive primary care, including physical exams, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications
- Monitor treatment effectiveness and ensure continuity of care
- Plan, direct, and evaluate delivery of medical services
- Ensure compliance with ICF/IID, CMS, and DODD standards
- Establish and implement medical policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
- Monitor quality indicators and clinical outcomes using EHR systems (e.g., PointClickCare)
- Identify risks and implement corrective actions
- Provide medical consultation to executive leadership
- Participate in committees (e.g., Infection Control, Pharmacy Review, Human Rights, MUI, Emergency Preparedness)
- Support audits, surveys, and corrective action planning
- Coordinate care across interdisciplinary teams (nursing, psychology, QIDPs, direct care staff, families/guardians)
- Participate in development and implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISPs)
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record
- Use EHR tools to monitor patient trends and support clinical decision-making
- Provide guidance and oversight to Certified Nurse Practitioners and other providers
- Review clinical practices and documentation for compliance and quality
- Offer consultation on complex cases
- Coordinate with external providers, specialists, and DODD Central Office
- Ensure appropriate referrals and continuity of care
- Contribute to healthcare strategy, quality improvement, and operational initiatives
- Utilize data and reporting tools to drive performance improvement
- Support staff education and training on clinical and documentation standards
- Assist in developing policies aligned with organizational goals
