Summary / Primary Role
The Sr. Manager, Transportation Operations & Yield Management is responsible for building and leading CMI’s transportation operations function while establishing a yield management strategy that maximizes profitability through optimal freight decisions. This role partners closely with operations leadership to develop pricing structures, separate transportation execution from warehouse operations, standardize processes, implement scalable systems, and build high-performing teams that drive operational efficiency and margin improvement.

Base Pay Range: $130,000 - $140,000 yearly

The Sr. Manager, Transportation Operations & Yield Management is responsible for building and leading CMI’s transportation operations function while establishing a yield management strategy that maximizes profitability through optimal freight decisions. This role partners closely with operations leadership to develop pricing structures, separate transportation execution from warehouse operations, standardize processes, implement scalable systems, and build high-performing teams that drive operational efficiency and margin improvement.
What You’ll Do
Yield Management & Decision Systems
- Build tools and processes to give visibility into inbound freight across all terminals, customer rates, and consolidation opportunities
- Establish decision framework for ship-now vs. hold-for consolidation based on margin impact and customer service requirements
- Implement metrics and reporting to track container utilization, margin per shipment, and consolidation efficiency
- Train terminal teams on consolidation decision-making
- Build capability so function can scale beyond one person per site
- Partner with Senior Director, Operations and customer to develop pricing frameworks for consolidation
- Build CMI pricing systems and tools that tie freight costs, consolidation economics, and customer rates together
- Own CMI pricing structure, ensuring rates reflect actual transportation and consolidation costs
- Provide pricing guidance to customers, based on freight market conditions and cost changes
- Develop functional leads for Quality Control, Import/Export, Dispatch, and Pricing; define roles, responsibilities, and career paths
- Standardize transportation processes across five CMI terminals
- Build or automate routing guides and carrier selection
- Eliminate manual brokerage work where possible
- Establish transload standards and quality control protocols
- Manage inbound flatbed and drayage carrier networks; negotiate rates and service agreements
- Oversee container lifecycle management and coordination with rail intermodal business unit
- Ensure compliance with transportation, customs, and import/export regulations
- Partner with terminal operations leadership on cross-functional coordination and resource optimization
- All other duties and projects as assigned
- Minimum of 7 years’ industry-related experience preferred, including three years in upper management required.
- Proven experience in operations management, with a track record of success in improving processes and achieving operational goals required.
- Strong leadership and team management skills required.

- Strategic thinking and a results-oriented mindset required.
- Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and compliance required.
