Job Description
Welders at Oceaneering's Marine Services Division (MSD) in Chesapeake, VA perform various welding processes to repair, modify and install various pipes, structures, foundations and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems. Welders must be able to select proper materials and follow requirements to perform welding functions. This role requires strict adherence to safety and quality standards, good housekeeping skills, and a high level of critical thinking and reading comprehension. This role may require overtime and/or the ability to travel domestically and overseas up to 75% of the year.

Oceaneering Marine Services Division (MSD) has over 30 years of experience providing full-service submarine and surface ship repairs supporting maintenance and alterations aboard commercial and U.S. military vessels. We are SUBSAFE and DDS-SOC certified and perform high-consequence maintenance on assets that operate in demanding environments.

Responsibilities
- Requires constant supervision/oversight. Has knowledge of the trade qualifications and performs as an entry level Welder.
- Must be able to understand and perform the basic set up, adjustment, and operation of various welding equipment and hand tools used in the trade.
- Select welding filler material, joint design and proper heat ranges as directed by Technical Work Documents.
- Occasionally:
- Lift 20-50 pounds
- Work in confined spaces , kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands.
- Identify color differences
- Wear PPE for skin protection
Lift 10-25 pounds
- Climb stairs/ladders, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects
- Twist body, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated, and work with arms extended overhead
- Operate a motor vehicle
- Lift up to 10 pounds
- Wear PPE protection for body, vision, and hearing protection
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma/GED
- Ability to pass knowledge and practical skills tests.
- Must qualify as a Welder/Workmanship Inspector in accordance with OII Process Instructions and welding procedures.
- Ability to obtain Deep Submergence Systems & SUBSAFE qualifications.
- Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Experience working in an industrial environment, preferably in shipbuilding.
- Apprenticeship Diploma or additional vocational courses/technical school and/or military or civilian experience with welding operations in a repair department or shipyard or fabrication shop.
