Job purpose
Set up, operate, and tend to heating equipment to heat-treat steel coil/wire.
Duties and responsibilities
• Review orders and locate coils according to schedule.
• Using the overhead crane and forklift: load and unload coils from furnace or carriers.
• Understand emergency process for gas and temperature.
• Raise and reduce gases and temperature according to chart.
• Be able to work with RX generator.
• Make and polish mount.
• Perform: Tensile pull, Hardness and Upset test.
• Cut samples and tag.
• Fill out production sheets, shift reports daily. Maintenance sheets as needed.
• In-House rejection, hold, and precautionary tags must be filled out and placed in the appropriate location.
• Keep work area clean and organized, including the lab.
• Perform some maintenance work on equipment.
• Compactor use and Banding coils.
• Check atmospheric gas temperature: Sample CO, CO2, O2, etc.
o Check every 15 min and check carbon potential.
o If computerized, ensure it is running properly.
• Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per guidelines.
• Daily inspect overhead crane and forklift before use.
• Follow all safety rules and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Able to read, write and speak English.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic computer skills
• Previous experience operating forklift and overhead crane in an industrial setting.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Working conditions
• Job requires regular work on alternating Weekends and Holidays, may be required to work in non-air-conditioned area.
• Requires standing, walking, bending, and twisting for duration of scheduled shift.
• Exposed to noise, fumes, odors and dust daily.
• Vision protection, metatarsal steel-toed shoes, hard hat, ear plugs, and high visibility clothing is required.
Physical requirements
• Lift minimum of 50 pounds.
• Bend and climb.
• Able to see and hear.
• Must be able to identify and distinguish colors.
