ICU Veterinary Technician Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases upon arrival and communicate effectively with veterinarians and technical staff
- Provide advanced nursing care to hospitalized and critical patients
- Administer IV fluid therapy, oxygen therapy, wound care, and feeding tube management
- Perform ongoing patient assessments for pain, comfort, and stability
- Place IV catheters and perform phlebotomy and sample collection
- Assist with blood and plasma transfusions
- Monitor anesthesia for both emergency and routine surgeries
- Operate anesthetic ventilation and provide neonatal nursing care when needed
- Perform and interpret in-house diagnostics, including:
- CBC and chemistry panels
- Blood gas analysis
- Urinalysis
- Cytology
- Coagulation testing
- Blood typing
- Prepare, store, and ship reference laboratory samples
- Discharge patients while communicating clearly and compassionately with clients
Schedule
- Part-time
- Flexible Shifts between 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM
Compensation
- Starting at $24/hour, based on experience
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in emergency, ICU, or urgent care veterinary medicine
- Strong technical proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and critical care
- Comfortable working overnight in a high-volume emergency hospital
- Ability to remain calm and organized in high-pressure situations
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
