Governors Avenue Animal Hospital has proudly served the Dover community since the 1950s. We provide compassionate, high-quality care for cats, dogs, pocket pets, and birds, with a strong emphasis on client education, clear communication, and exceptional medical standards. We are now seeking an experienced Managing Veterinarian to lead our dedicated team.

The Opportunity

As Managing Veterinarian, you’ll continue doing what you love most: practicing veterinary medicine and building meaningful relationships with patients and clients. In addition, you’ll play a key leadership role by guiding medical standards, mentoring veterinarians, and fostering a culture where both people and pets thrive.

Job Duties

• Provide medical leadership and oversight of the veterinary team
• Develop and uphold medical protocols and best practices
• Ensure regulatory compliance and high standards of care
• Mentor, coach, and inspire veterinarians and support staff
• Partner closely with the Hospital Manager on budgeting, financial performance, and operational improvements

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent
• A strong commitment to delivering exceptional, evidence-based veterinary medicine
• Proven ability to lead, delegate, and develop high-performing teams
• Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills

Compensation

• Base salary: $130,000–$175,000, commensurate with experience
• Additional production-based bonuses

Dover is minutes from Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, close to Delaware’s beautiful beaches, and within easy driving distance of major metropolitan areas—making it an ideal place to live and work.

• Relocation benefits are offered at NVA GP’s discretion and are available only for approved Managing Veterinarian roles within the following states: OH, WV, PA, MD, NJ, NY, MA, RI, CT, VT, NH, ME. Eligibility is dependent on distance moved, business need, and final approval from Talent Acquisition. Payment amounts and criteria may vary by role and are subject to change at any time.
