What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infant Teacher position at Nurture with Care Kids Academy?
Infant Room Teacher (Ages 3–12 months)
Nurture with Care Kids Academy — Oak Harbor, WA
$18–$22/hour · Full-Time or Part-Time · Monday–Friday
Love caring for babies? We would love to meet you.
Nurture with Care Kids Academy is a family-owned, Early Achievers Level 5 childcare center in Oak Harbor, serving families across Whidbey Island including those connected to NAS Whidbey. We are opening our infant classroom and looking for a warm, attentive teacher to help babies ages 3 to 12 months feel safe, loved, and curious every single day.
If you like slow mornings on the floor with a 6-month-old, narrating everything you do, and high-fiving a family at pickup because their baby finally rolled over, this is your room.
About the Role
You will lead the daily rhythm of the infant classroom: feeding, diapering, safe sleep, tummy time, sensory play, and simple language-rich moments. You will work in a 1:4 ratio with a max group size of 8, alongside an Assistant Teacher. You will partner closely with each family through our Lillio/HiMama app so parents know exactly how their baby's day went.
Infant care is the most regulated classroom in our center. We take DCYF licensing seriously, and we will train and support you so you feel confident every shift.
What You'll Do
- Provide warm, responsive care and active supervision for every baby in the room
- Follow safe sleep practices on every nap (back sleeping, empty crib, visual checks)
- Prepare and serve bottles correctly (labeled, refrigerated, never propped, never microwaved)
- Change diapers with full attention and proper hand-washing every time
- Do tummy time, floor play, reading, singing, and narrating throughout the day
- Document feedings, diapers, naps, and milestones for each family on Lillio/HiMama
- Greet every family by name at drop-off and pickup and share something specific about their baby's day
- Keep the room clean, organized, and stocked
- Implement the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers & Twos with simple weekly plans
What We're Looking For
Required:
- High school diploma or GED (or college credit as equivalent)
- 18 years of age or older
- Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR/AED with hands-on component (online-only not accepted — we reimburse up to $100 after one month)
- Safe Sleep training before working unsupervised with infants
- DCYF Child Care Basics (CCB) completed or enrolled within 90 days of hire
- HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens training and Washington Food Worker Card
- Negative TB test
- STARS ID and active MERIT account
- DCYF portable background check cleared through MERIT
- Meets DCYF Center Lead Teacher qualifications per WAC 110-300-0100, or placed on a Professional Development Plan toward the ECE Initial Certificate within 5 years
- Able to lift and hold infants up to 30 lbs, sit on the floor, bend over cribs and changing tables, and hear a quiet cry across the room
Preferred:
- 6 or more months of experience with infants in a licensed center
- ECE Initial Certificate, CDA credential, or related coursework in progress
- Experience at an Early Achievers Level 4 or 5 program, or an NAEYC-accredited program
- Bilingual (Spanish or another language spoken by NAS Whidbey families)
Who thrives in this role: someone calm under pressure, observant, reliable, discreet with family information, and comfortable following strict safety procedures without shortcuts.
What We Offer
- $18–$22/hour based on education, credentials, and experience
- Free ECE tuition and textbooks after 90 days (at Skagit Valley College and other accredited schools)
- Automatic pay increase of $1/hour after earning your ECE Initial Certificate (12 credits), and another $1/hour after the Short Certificate (8 more credits)
- 401(k) with employer match (conditions apply)
- Paid sick time (1 hour earned per 40 hours worked)
- Paid time for required DCYF in-service training
- Up to $100 reimbursement for Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR/AED after one month
- Child care discount for your own children (per handbook terms)
- Career pathway to Program Supervisor and Director roles as we grow (new center opening in 2026)
- Supportive, family-oriented team where your work is genuinely valued
