Position: Infection Preventionist / Nurse Educator (IP)
Location: Clark, NJ
Shift: Full-Time
Salary: $53–$55 per hour
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Infection Preventionist / Nurse Educator (IP) to plan, develop, coordinate, and oversee infection prevention and in-service education programs. This role ensures compliance with CDC, CMS, and NJDOH regulations, supports staff education, and promotes resident safety and quality care.
Key Responsibilities
Screen admissions for infection risks and presence of infectious diseases
Collaborate with Admissions and Nursing to screen for multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) and ensure appropriate resident placement and cohorting
Review new admissions within 72 hours to ensure compliance with PPD/TB testing, Flu, Pneumonia, and COVID vaccinations
Monitor and document immunizations in residents’ medical records
Conduct daily reviews of:
Nursing 24-hour reports for infection trends
Microbiology reports for significant pathogens and reportable cases
Identify healthcare-associated and community-acquired infections using standardized definitions
Monitor device utilization (e.g., Foley catheters, central lines)
Coordinate flu season vaccination compliance, tracking, and surveillance
Oversee COVID-19 testing in compliance with CDC/CMS guidelines and ensure proper documentation
Conduct resident education regarding vaccines/testing, document refusals, and follow up with re-offers
Ensure compliance with NJDOH infectious disease surveillance mandates
Conduct daily rounds to ensure infection control practices are followed
Oversee visitor screening processes and resident consent documentation
Provide regular reports to the Administrator and Director of Nursing
Education & Staff Development
Plan, develop, direct, and evaluate in-service education and on-the-job training programs
Incorporate commercial training materials and instructional aids as needed
Lead the development of educational goals and objectives
Maintain and update training manuals, records, reports, and instructional materials
Ensure training areas are prepared before sessions and properly cleaned afterward
Assist department heads with scheduling speakers and training sessions
Develop, direct, and schedule refresher and orientation programs for new hires
Support licensed nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) in meeting continuing education requirements
Assist in developing and implementing quality assurance initiatives related to education
Stay current on regulations and best practices through professional development and associations
Requirements
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing facility, or healthcare setting preferred
At least 6 months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing
Infection Prevention (IP) Certification preferred
Sigma Care experience preferred
Strong knowledge of CDC, CMS, and NJDOH regulations
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
