Position: Charge Nurse / Unit Manager
Location: Lakeland, Florida
Shift: Full-Time
Salary: $88,000 annually
Job Summary:
The Charge Nurse / Unit Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the nursing unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care. This role requires leadership, clinical expertise, and the ability to coordinate interdisciplinary care while maintaining compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure minimum staffing levels for nurses and nurse aides and post required nursing staff data.
Maintain accurate resident census; report admissions, discharges, leaves, and bed-holds.
Assist with safe and orderly resident transfers and discharges.
Coordinate pre-certifications and recertifications for Medicare Advantage and commercial insurance.
Interpret and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Participate in developing and updating facility policies.
Assist with facility inspections and government surveys.
Audit nursing documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Perform administrative duties including reports, forms, charting, and evaluations.
Provide licensed nursing care consistent with resident care plans.
Communicate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams regarding resident status.
Ensure culturally competent, trauma-informed care and respect for resident rights.
Evaluate resident responses to care and coordinate person-centered plans.
Monitor residents for distress or decreased social interaction.
Implement dementia care programs and restorative nursing activities.
Provide pain management and education to residents and families.
Assist with nutrition, hydration, and coordination of food services.
Ensure compliance with safe practices regarding restraints and medications.
Facilitate resident discharge planning and safe transitions.
Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including CNAs.
Assist in developing corrective actions for staff performance issues.
Coordinate nursing services with other departments to ensure continuity of care.
Candidate Requirements:
Must possess a current, active, and unencumbered RN or LPN/LVN license in Florida.
Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to plan, organize, and implement nursing programs.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with staff, residents, families, and regulatory agencies.
Ability to make independent decisions and handle difficult situations with tact and patience.
Preferred: Nursing home or long-term care experience.
Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
Ability to contribute to a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Familiarity with PCC (PointClickCare) or similar electronic health record systems is a plus.
