What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Nurse Manager – Operating Room position at NurseAmerica?
The OR Nurse Manager oversees both the administrative and clinical management of the Operating Room. Responsibilities include staff supervision, daily operational management, adherence to regulatory standards, performance improvement initiatives, staffing oversight, and supporting a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide 24-hour operational and clinical leadership for the Operating Room
- Ensure safe, evidence-based, high-quality nursing care
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation for surgical services
- Coach, mentor, and support OR nursing staff and leadership (Charge RNs, ANMs, etc.)
- Monitor performance improvement, patient outcomes, and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perioperative teams, and hospital leadership
- Manage departmental budgets, equipment needs, productivity, and performance metrics
- Support staff development through education, onboarding, and ongoing competency training
- Foster a culture of respect, teamwork, accountability, and patient-centered care
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Active CA RN License
- BLS (AHA) certification
- Minimum 5 years of acute care RN experience
- Minimum 5 years of hospital Operating Room RN experience
- Minimum 3 years of nurse leadership experience (Charge RN, Supervisor, ANM, or Manager)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field
