Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Central Services team, located in Bay Minette, AL is seeking a Water Treatment Operator. This role is responsible for safely, efficiently, and effectively contributing to the overall operating process and providing quality products to our customers. Applicants will perform job duties including processing wastewater in the wastewater facility, coating lines, and handling hazardous waste streams.

Responsibilities

• Work safely in compliance with all Novelis safety and environmental requirements, policies, and regulatory statutes.
• Notify appropriate personnel of irregularities in operating equipment or materials; maintain clean and orderly conditions in work area.
• Under supervision, coordinate and carry out various operations in the performance of any assignment
• Operate a variety of mobile equipment including, but not limited to, forklift and overhead crane or chain fall
• Inspect, operate, and troubleshoot daily operations of wastewater facility including but not limited to pumps, filters, tanks, hose and pipes, chemicals, and water processes in the coating lines (observational not operational control on coating lines only)
• Conduct accurate NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit testing procedures
• Perform activities including but not limited to handling hoses, scraping sand filters, cleaning tanks, pits and hoppers, basic landscaping associated with sand filters to maintain proper drainage, climbing ladders
• Participate in plant safety initiatives.

Minimum qualifications

• Must be capable of achieving Class A Wastewater Operator certification or better.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, shifts, and holidays.
• Ability to work safely and demonstrate a concern for personal safety and safety of others.
• Must be able to work as part of a team and be capable of self-direction and taking initiative.
• Good verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills are needed.
• Strong math and analytical reasoning skills required; good decision-making skills needed.
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical proficiency.
• Must be flexible as job focus and assignments may change frequently.

Preferred qualifications

• Previous exposure to wastewater treatment
• Previous manufacturing experience and water treatment experience

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
