Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis North America Bay Minette Technical team is looking for a Chemist to be located at our new facility in Bay Minette, Alabama. This role supports the Bay Minette facility and will ensure the quality of aluminum products produced by the Bay Minette Plant by conducting laboratory tests and analyses. This position will report to the Technical Process Leader.

Responsibilities

• Be a role model for safety; demonstrating behaviors that align with the Novelis Safety Absolutes and Safety Principles to build a zero-injury culture.
• Support to Chemical and Metallographic Laboratories including ensuring reliability of analyses; execution deadlines; guarantee and train people for activities and analyses including titration, chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry.
• Support licenses and maps required by public agencies with respect to their expiration date compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Provide targets and specifications of coolant systems and coating lines by ensuring the best surface quality of metal for internal and external customers using monitoring parameters and control procedures.
• Support or lead projects for development and optimization of plant chemical processes to drive productivity, quality, and sustainability.
• Maintain updated documentation and provide operational training – Control Plans, PFMEA, Kaizens, etc.
• Develop new inputs for the productive areas and ensure the best inputs for the production areas with low cost and best quality performance.
• Network with other Novelis plants and laboratories to develop Best Practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering
• Position requires five plus years of Chemistry experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.
• Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
• Proven computer skills with software application proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs quickly.

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
