Graduate Resident Coordinator

Hours: 20 hours/week (June-May)

Start Date: June 1, 2026


Basic Function:

The Graduate Resident Coordinator's (GRC) role is to create a sense of community within the residence halls and amongst the campus community by valuing, supporting, challenging and empowering students to grow and develop personally and through their relationships with others in accordance with the Notre Dame of Maryland University's mission.

The Graduate Resident Coordinator (GRC) assists with  the responsibility and accountability in providing leadership and management of two residence halls. The GRC is responsible for helping implement a comprehensive residential curriculum for student success by  bolstering a robust living-learning community, fostering holistic growth and student development, assisting in retention efforts, fostering respect for diversity, and promoting community development, .   Additional responsibilities include helping Student Life personnel provide opportunities for students to participate in social and community service activities.

 

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide professional on-call coverage, responding to crisis and emergency situations in accordance with university policy and best practices
  2. Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate Desk Assistants, supporting their professional growth and effectiveness
  3. Facilitate inclusive, engaging residential communities that promote student belonging, learning, and personal development
  4. Serve as a visible, active member of the campus community by building collaborative relationships with students, staff and campus partners
  5. Provide hands-on professional support during hall openings, closings, breaks, and student transitions
  6. Maintain accurate housing policies, procedures, manuals, schedules, and residential rosters
  7. Collect, analyze, and report data related to retention, housing trends, staff performance, and program assessment to inform continuous improvement
  8. Participate in divisional meetings and ongoing supervision, contributing to shared goals and institutional mission
  9. Participate in Graduate Assistant cohort meetings regularly that support professional development, reflection, and peer learning
  10. Serve as a collaborative thought partner in the strategic growth and assessment of Housing & Residence Life
  11. Perform other duties as assigned in support of student success and the office of Housing and Residence Life

 

Administrative and Managerial Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare correspondence, reports, and maintain appropriate housing and residence life records as required or requested.
  2. Respond to emergency situations efficiently and effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
  3. Enforce University and Housing & Residence Life policies in a manner that promotes individual, personal, moral and social growth.
  4. Provide supervision of residence halls at all times when students are in residence, including breaks, vacations, holidays, evenings and weekends.
  5. Participate in the Professional on Duty (POD) rotation as assigned.
  6. Assist in the facilitation of maintenance needs within the residence halls.
  7. Assist in the housing selection and room assignment process for all returning and new students.
  8. Assist in the coordination of all early move-ins/extensions to the residence hall contracts for the academic year.
  9. Attend bi-weekly Housing & Resident Life staff meetings.
  10. Supervise and meet one-on-one or in small groups weekly with all RAs
  11. Assess all Housing & Residence Life programs and services on a regular basis.
  12. Meet regularly with the Director of Housing & Residence Life.

 

Housing Facilities Management:

  1. Manage guest housing requests.
  2. Manage all building operations and keys.
  3. Assist in residence hall opening/closing procedures
  4. Assist the Director of Housing & Residence Life in long term plans for renovation, refurbishing and capital improvements in the residence halls 
  5. Assist with efforts to examine and assure student safety and security including fire safety, emergency responses and crisis intervention

 

Professional Development:

  1. Participate in workshops held by the Division of Student Life.
  2. Serve on college committees and planning groups as requested and appropriate.
  3. Performs such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: Bachelor's Degree required. Must be enrolled in a graduate studies program at Notre Dame of Maryland University. Understanding of student development theory and how to translate theory to effective practice; best practices in student conduct, housing and residence life; counseling skills and basic administration skills.
  • Experience: One to two years of Residence Life live-in experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Skills/Aptitude: Administrative skills, supervisory skills, counseling skills, ability to effectively manage crisis, ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and faculty. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment 20 hours/week, with twelve-month live-in position.  Room and board provided; meal plan included when the dining hall is open.    Serve on-call evenings (Person on Duty (POD)), weekends and holidays as part of a shared rotation schedule.  Must remain on campus at least one (1) weekend each month and notify all appropriate staff when absent from campus. Required POD training will be held the week before that start of each academic term. Some evening and weekend hours.  

 This position has been identified as having a potential risk for occupational exposure to potentially infectious material; as such, this position is required to be offered the Hepatitis B Vaccine at no cost to the employee, and annual training on Preventing Exposure to Bloodbourne Pathogens must be completed.
