Cage Cashier

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cage Cashier cashes checks, issues chips to the floor, and builds good guest relations, seeing to it that guests are served efficiently and courteously while they play. The cage is where the property’s money is controlled, and the position is accountable for the accuracy of every transaction that crosses the window.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Cage Transactions

• Meet each guest promptly and with authentic service.

• Release chips to floor or shift personnel under the governing internal control procedure.

• Process check cashing consistent with internal control policy and Gambling Commission requirements.

• Balance the assigned bank at the start and close of shift and document any variance immediately.

• Identify counterfeit, damaged, or foreign currency and process it under the applicable procedure.

• Complete fills, credits, and inter-bank transfers with the signatures the procedure requires.

• Assist with soft count functions when the property requires coverage.

• Assist with Pull Tab Audits as needed.

Controls and Compliance

• Protect cage assets and keep the cage secure, admitting only authorized persons.

• Support currency transaction and suspicious activity reporting by identifying and escalating qualifying activity as NGG procedure directs.

• Report every variance, overage, and shortage to the Accounting Manager at once.

• Understand and comply with Washington State gambling regulations and the internal control policies and procedures established by NGG.

• Hold and keep current a Washington State Gambling Commission card room employee license and any other credential the position requires.

Workplace Standards

• Report on time, in uniform, and ready for the shift.

• Finish all assigned training, including compliance, safety, and refresher training.

• Use of a personal mobile device anywhere on the gaming floor is not permitted while on the clock; undivided attention to the job is expected throughout the shift.

• Help with other duties and responsibilities as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Experience, and Training

• Completion of high school, a GED, or comparable practical experience.

• Two (2) years of prior customer service work.

• Prior cashiering experience.

• Familiarity with hazardous material standards.

• Applicant must have reached the age of eighteen (18).

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required

• Hands-on understanding of cage cashier operations and of Washington State gambling regulations and rules, coupled with strong guest relations ability, a well-groomed appearance, and the flexibility to work a variable schedule.

• Sustained focus sufficient to manage several concurrent tasks.

• Engages comfortably with guests and works well alongside colleagues.

• Presents a tidy, professional image and maintains sound personal grooming standards.

• Proficient in spoken and written English, including reading comprehension.

• Precision and close attention to detail are required.

• Competent in the four basic mathematical operations across all units of measure, whether working in whole numbers, fractions, or decimals.

• Ability to perform mental arithmetic quickly and accurately while a line waits.

• Ability to follow detailed written procedures exactly, without deviation.

• Comfortable performing all work under continuous surveillance coverage.

• Discretion in handling confidential guest and financial information.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The role is performed in a high-tempo casino setting. Extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting are required, as are speaking, hearing, writing, and fine finger and tactile manipulation. Lifting and carrying of up to thirty pounds (30 lbs.) is required, and heavier loads on occasion. Reaching with the hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling occur regularly, and the incumbent may be exposed to swings in temperature at either extreme.

The role is worked at a cage window, standing or seated for extended stretches, with repetitive hand motion in currency and chip handling and close visual acuity required for documents and screens. Coin and currency trays require lifting. Work is performed under continuous surveillance coverage. Schedules include nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts based on business needs.
