Position

The Analytical Chemist is responsible for the preparation and analysis of radioactive and non-radioactive samples generated in NorthStar’s production or development laboratories, maintenance, calibration and qualification of analytical measurement equipment, and may assist with quality control of products. The Analytical Chemist will be comfortable with cGMP documentation processes, using critical thinking skills to assess whether data makes sense and will hone problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  •  Operate, maintain and calibrate analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to: HPLC, GC/GC-MS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, UV-Vis.
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate radiation measurement equipment, including but not limited to: HPGe, Gamma Counter, LSC (with alpha and beta counting modes), Alpha Spectrometer, gas proportional counters, dose calibrators, survey meters, and wipe test counters.
  • Preparation and analysis of samples (radioactive and non-radioactive) with a variety of instrumentation.
  • Perform radiochemical separations as needed to support product development.
  • Review, evaluate, prepare and follow Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Protocols and Reports.
  • Understand and prepare equipment documentation.
  • Conduct testing to generate data in support of product development and production.
  • Engage in inter and intra departmental collaborations.
  • Early Development

    After 3 months you will:

    Have completed initial training and become familiar with your essential duties.

    Have built a rapport with your team and leaders.

    Actively participate in laboratory activities.

     

    After 6 months you will:

    Be proficient in operating essential instrumentation.

    Actively participate in method development and validation.

    Feel confident that you are making a difference.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related physical science and minimum two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Previous experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory making cGMP / GLP measurements is required.  Two (2) years previous experience in a radiochemistry position with an understanding of radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine desired.

    Working Conditions

    This role may involve working in a controlled cleanroom environment, general office setting, or specific manufacturing areas. Conditions may include:

    • Exposure to varying temperatures, both indoors (heated/air-conditioned spaces) and outdoors
    • Noise levels range from quiet to loud, depending on the work area
    • Specific vision abilities, including near vision, visual acuity, and color discrimination

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and may include:

    • Respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and full protective clothing
    • Compliance with cleanroom gowning protocols (e.g., removal of all jewelry, including piercings)
    • Prohibition of cosmetics, fragrances (perfume, aftershave), and nail products, including polish, artificial nails, or extensions

    As a radiopharmaceutical manufacturing site, radiation may be present in the laboratory and production areas. Employees in this role may be required to:

    • Follow strict radiation safety procedures
    • Participate in dosimetry monitoring and bioassay testing as part of the company protocol
    • Inform leadership of any health conditions that may affect product integrity, by cleanroom standards
