Position Summary

Northside Charter High School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Math Teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop strong mathematical reasoning, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills through rigorous, engaging instruction and meaningful collaboration.

This role centers on delivering high-quality math instruction while ensuring students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction aligned to IEP goals. As New York State Education Department (NYSED) graduation requirements evolve, we are seeking an innovative educator who is ready to think strategically about instructional design, assessment, and accessibility. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the mathematics team and special education team to develop and implement forward-thinking approaches that ensure students meet graduation benchmarks while building the skills necessary for post-secondary success.

This position requires a teacher who is reflective, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement, someone eager to help shape a program that prepares students not just for exams, but for college-level coursework, career readiness, and independent problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in mathematics, which may include Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, or Statistics, depending on expertise and school need.

Specially Designed Instruction (SPED): Provide specialized instruction to meet the needs of students with disabilities, aligning daily instruction to IEP goals and ensuring appropriate scaffolds, accommodations, and modifications.

IEP Implementation & Compliance: Implement IEPs with fidelity, maintain required documentation, monitor progress toward IEP goals, and collaborate with the special education team to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and timelines.

Co-Teaching/Collaboration: Collaborate with general education math teachers and related service providers to plan instruction, co-teach when assigned, and align supports to maximize student access and achievement.

College Readiness: Integrate PSAT, SAT, and college-level problem types into daily instruction (with appropriate supports) to strengthen students’ analytical reasoning, problem-solving stamina, and readiness for post-secondary expectations.

Student Engagement: Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a growth mindset in mathematics.

Skill Development: Help students build foundational skills to solve complex problem sets involving deep reasoning and real-world application.

Assessment and Feedback: Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress, provide timely and constructive feedback, analyze data, and tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs (including IEP-driven supports).

Differentiation: Adapt instruction to accommodate various learning levels and styles, ensuring all students are supported and challenged through scaffolded pathways to grade-level content.

Classroom Management: Maintain an organized, respectful, and positive learning environment.

Parent/Guardian Communication: Maintain open and proactive communication with parents and guardians about student progress, IEP-related updates (as appropriate), and classroom activities.

Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in mathematics instruction, special education, and inclusive pedagogy.
