Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will oversee accounting functions, financial reporting, reconciliations, budget support, and compliance activities for a City Government organization while ensuring adherence to governmental accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
● Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules.
● Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
● Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
● Support budget development, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
● Ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
● Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to management.
● Assist with annual audits and preparation of audit schedules.
● Collaborate with department leaders to support fiscal management and reporting needs.
● Monitor expenditures and revenues to ensure budgetary compliance.
Qualifications:
● Required: Municipal, county, or state government accounting or finance experience.
● Experience with governmental accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and account reconciliations.
● Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and financial controls.
● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
● CPA or CPA-track candidates are preferred but not required.
● Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
