Pay: $27 to $32 per hour, based on experience

Reports To: COO

Supervises: HR Coordinator

Northlight Counseling, formerly Arise Counseling Service, is an established behavioral health group practice with locations in Eugene, Springfield, Albany and Salem, Oregon. We provide comprehensive counseling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples and families throughout our communities.

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who can help strengthen our HR operations, thoughtfully guide team members and leaders and support our practice as we continue to grow.

Job Summary:

The Senior Human Resources Generalist plays an important role in supporting Northlight Counseling’s mission and fostering a workplace culture grounded in trust, respect, accountability and care.

This position oversees daily HR operations and works both independently and collaboratively with leadership, managers and team members. The Senior HR Generalist provides guidance across employee relations, payroll, recruitment, compliance, leave administration, policy development and employee experience.

The ideal candidate has strong HR knowledge, sound judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive or complex workplace situations with professionalism and discretion. This position also supervises the HR Coordinator and provides guidance to the HR team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a trusted HR resource for team members, managers and leadership.
  • Guide managers through performance concerns, documentation, employee communication and workplace expectations.
  • Support workplace investigations, corrective action, performance improvement plans and the resolution of employee concerns.
  • Oversee payroll processes to help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Review employee changes, pay adjustments, PTO usage, deductions and other payroll information.
  • Investigate payroll questions and discrepancies and work with payroll systems, vendors and internal partners as needed.
  • Partner with leadership and managers to identify hiring needs and recruitment priorities.
  • Lead candidate screening and interviews and provide thoughtful selection recommendations.
  • Develop, maintain and interpret HR policies and procedures.
  • Monitor employment law updates and recommend policy or process changes when needed.
  • Coordinate employee leave, workplace accommodations, interactive processes and return to work planning.
  • Support HR audits, reporting requirements, recordkeeping and compliance initiatives.
  • Analyze HR information related to turnover, headcount, compensation, employee trends and practice needs.
  • Provide prioritization, guidance, feedback and training to HR team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR workflows, systems, documentation and the overall employee experience.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Three to five years of progressive human resources experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience and demonstrated skills may be considered.
  • Experience supporting employee relations, payroll, compliance, recruitment and daily HR operations.
  • Experience providing HR guidance to managers and team members.
  • Knowledge of employee relations practices, wage and hour requirements, HR compliance and workplace policies.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Clear, professional and compassionate communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and respond thoughtfully to changing practice needs.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems, HR reporting, workplace investigations or behavioral healthcare is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily in person and office based in Eugene, Oregon.
  • Minimum of 38 to 40 hours per week, generally scheduled Monday through Friday during daytime hours.
  • Occasional travel to Northlight Counseling locations in Eugene, Springfield, Albany and Salem.
  • Some flexibility may be needed to respond to time sensitive employee or practice matters.
  • Extended computer use is required as part of the position’s regular responsibilities.
  • The position may occasionally require lifting or moving office materials, files or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
