Position Summary

The Director of Marketing Communications is responsible for leading and executing Northern Hospitality Group’s integrated marketing and communication strategies to elevate brand awareness, strengthen reputation, and drive engagement across all audiences. This role oversees internal and external communications, brand messaging, public relations, digital marketing, and social media strategy while ensuring a consistent and compelling brand voice across all platforms.

This is a senior leadership role that requires a strategic, creative, and results-driven professional who can align storytelling, marketing initiatives, and communications efforts with NHG’s business objectives. The ideal candidate is both a big-picture thinker and a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing Communications Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with NHG’s vision, mission, and core values.

  • Ensure consistent brand messaging across all internal and external channels.

  • Partner with the executive team to define communication and marketing priorities that support overall business goals.

  • Serve as the company’s chief spokesperson, representing NHG to media, partners, and the public.

  • Provide strategic counsel to leadership on messaging, brand positioning, crisis communications, and reputation management.

Public Relations Media Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.

  • Develop press releases, media kits, and communication materials for company initiatives, events, and announcements.

  • Manage media inquiries, interviews, and press opportunities.

  • Lead public relations campaigns that increase brand awareness and positive visibility.

  • Track media coverage and evaluate the effectiveness of PR efforts.

Digital Marketing Social Media Strategy

  • Oversee NHG’s digital presence, including websites, social media platforms, and email marketing.

  • Lead social media strategy to ensure engaging, on-brand, and results-driven content.

  • Manage the editorial and content calendar across all digital channels.

  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, and creative teams on campaigns, promotions, and digital storytelling.

  • Analyze performance metrics and optimize strategies for growth and engagement.

Internal Communications

  • Lead internal communication efforts through newsletters, meetings, digital platforms, and company updates.

  • Partner with HR and leadership to communicate company initiatives, culture, and organizational changes.

  • Drive transparent and effective change communications during periods of growth or transition.

  • Foster a two-way communication culture that encourages employee feedback and engagement.

Content Creation Brand Management

  • Oversee the development of all brand and marketing materials to ensure consistency in voice, tone, and visual identity.

  • Collaborate with creative teams on content that highlights NHG’s brands, products, and guest experiences.

  • Lead storytelling initiatives that authentically reflect NHG’s mission, values, and Alaskan roots.

  • Ensure all external communications reflect professionalism, authenticity, and brand integrity.

Crisis Communications Reputation Management

  • Develop and maintain crisis communication plans.

  • Lead communications during high-pressure or sensitive situations with clarity and professionalism.

  • Protect and enhance NHG’s reputation through proactive and responsive communication strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 8 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or digital media, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven experience in media relations and crisis communications.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of branding, content strategy, and digital marketing.

  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, and analytics tools.

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to NHG properties, events, or media engagements.

  • Exposure to high-pressure situations, particularly during crisis or time-sensitive communications.

Physical Scheduling Requirements

  • Ability to travel as needed for events or media opportunities.

  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends when required.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Position Type Hours

  • Full-time, exempt position with standard business hours and flexibility as needed.
