Assistant General Manager – 49th State Brewing

Job Summary:

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager (GM) in overseeing all daily operations of 49th State Brewing. This role assists in leading front-of-house and bar operations, supervising staff, ensuring quality standards, and upholding compliance with all company and safety regulations.

The AGM plays a key leadership role in driving sales, maintaining profitability, developing employees, and ensuring that every guest leaves with an unforgettable experience.

Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Leadership Team Development

  • Support the General Manager in leading and mentoring all restaurant and bar staff to achieve operational goals.

  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and developing team members.

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and professional work environment.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and hospitality excellence.

Guest Experience

  • Ensure guests receive friendly, attentive, and consistent service.

  • Anticipate and resolve guest concerns promptly and effectively.

  • Maintain high standards of presentation, service, and quality across all touchpoints.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily front-of-house and bar operations, ensuring smooth, efficient service.

  • Support the GM in enforcing company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization across all areas of the restaurant and bar.

  • Assist in coordinating special events, promotions, and downtown-specific activations.

Financial Administrative Support

  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and achieving profitability targets.

  • Support inventory management, ordering, and vendor communication.

  • Help oversee cash handling, reconciliations, and daily reporting.

  • Utilize R365, Toast, SpotOn Teamwork, and MS Teams for labor, sales, and performance tracking.

  • Support scheduling and labor planning to align with business volume and labor goals.

Facility Safety Oversight

  • Assist in maintaining equipment and facilities in excellent working condition.

  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Anchorage security protocols.

  • Help manage staff requirements and track compliance.

Collaboration Communication

  • Act as a key link between the General Manager, culinary leadership, and corporate management.

  • Participate in management meetings, providing insights and updates on operations.

  • Communicate company goals, initiatives, and expectations clearly to all staff.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience in a high-volume restaurant, bar, or hospitality setting.

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong understanding of restaurant operations, cost control, and service excellence.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in POS and management software (e.g., Toast, R365, MS Teams).

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must possess or obtain Alaska Food Handler Card and TAPS certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred:

  • Experience in multi-unit operations.

  • Cicerone Server Level Certification.

  • Knowledge of business management, HR practices, and basic accounting principles.

Physical Work Environment Requirements

  • Active role requiring standing and walking for up to 8 hours per shift.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move items such as kegs and boxes.

  • Exposure to a fast-paced, high-volume environment with varying noise levels.

  • May occasionally require working outdoors in Alaska’s variable climate.
