  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to

complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility

with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are

rare.

  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a

regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet

Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university

business become authorized by submitting Driver\'s license

information for driving record monitoring, and completion of

training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law

applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or

university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. More

  • This position offers either 40 hours per week for 11 month per year

or (.915 FTE) 40 hours per week for 12 months per year (1.0 FTE).

Peer Jacks Mentoring is a resource that supports and empowers incoming

students in their transition to college by building community and

encouraging personal development.

VISION

Peer Jacks Mentoring will ignite student success across NAU by

connecting new Lumberjacks with caring mentors who inspire confidence,

foster a sense of belonging, and champion each student\'s journey.

GOALS

The purpose of Peer Jacks Mentoring is to empower every student to

thrive academically, socially, and personally by cultivating genuine

connection, encouragement, and lifelong skills that last far beyond

graduation. The Peer Jacks programs (Mountain Jacks, Transfer Jacks, and

Jacks State) achieve this by meeting students where they are at as they

adjust to college life, develop an understanding of their personal path,

and grow their sense of community. Our mentors guide their mentees

through key milestones in the student lifecycle, whether they are

First-year students at the Mountain Campus, Transfer students joining us

for their first semester, or Statewide students studying throughout

Arizona.

Students Who Participate In Peer Jacks Will Develop

  • The ability to navigate campus resources and processes,
  • An awareness of their connection to space and place,
  • Personal value/goal identification in alignment with their intended

academic and career path,

  • A deeper sense of belonging and of their own contributions to the

NAU campus and environment.

**About the Position**

This position supports a dynamic team that provides services and support

to assist students in their development at the university through the

integration of academic learning and individual growth and aims to

ensure meaningful and purposeful experiences and interactions that

foster a successful path towards graduation. Peer Jacks Mentoring is a

high impact Student Affairs program with a team that is composed of

student staff, graduate assistants and professional staff that serves a

diverse population of first-year students. The Coordinator is

responsible for managing the Peer Jacks peer mentor program, the Peer

Jacks Lounge, and a variety of engagement opportunities for first-year

students on the Flagstaff Mountain campus. The Coordinator reports to

the Assistant Director of Peer Jacks Mentoring. This position includes

commitments outside university business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

including nights (approximately 1-2 per week, primarily during the fall

and spring semesters) and weekends (approximately once a month). Some

travel may also be required.

**Minimum Qualifications**

  • Undergraduate bachelor\'s degree.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • \*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be

used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.*

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Master\'s Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education, Educational

Administration, Counseling, or related field Leadership curriculum

development.

  • Experience with peer mentoring best practices.
  • Experience in supervision of student employees.
  • Background in training development & facilitation.
  • Intermediate user of PeopleSoft & Salesforce.

**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**

Knowledge

Knowledge of student development theory and application.

Knowledge and experience working with New Majority students in higher

education (this includes first-year, first generation, older, racially

and ethnically diverse student populations).

Understanding of working with students in a Hispanic Serving

Institution.

Knowledge of current physical health, mental health, alcohol and drug

use, and social issues on university campuses.

Knowledge of primary factors that impact student retention and common

strategies used to increase student success.

Knowledge of higher education law, including FERPA, Title IX
